Abstract. This commercial item description covers acetate and cotton cloth intended for use as a laminating material for interlining shirt collars and nurse caps.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
1.1 General description. The cotton yarn shall be carded or combed drawn and spun into singles for the warp and filling. The acetate yarn for the warp shall be a dull continuous filament and shall be not less than 38 percent nor more than 45 percent, by weight, of the cloth. The cloth shall be plain weave and the warp lay-out shall be arranged by alternating two ends of cotton yarn and one end of the acetate yarn over the width of the warp. The width shall be as specified (see 4.1) and shall be the minimum acceptable width inclusive of the selvage when fly-shuttle looms or shuttleless looms with tuck-in selvages are used. For all other shuttleless looms the width measurement shall be made between the last warp yarn on each side excluding the protruding fringe(s). The color of the cloth shall be bleached white and the degree of whiteness imparted by the bleaching shall not be supplemented by the use of optical brightener. The color of the finished cloth shall match the standard sample when viewed under unfiltered tungsten lamps that approximate artificial daylight and that have a correlated color temperature of 7500 ± 200K, with illumination of 100 ± 20 foot candles, and shall be a good match to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at 2300 ± 200K.
1.2 Physical requirements. The finished cloth shall conform to the requirements listed in table I.
