3.5.1 Weave. The weave shall be a plain weave.
3.5.2 Construction. Classes 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 cloth shall be of an end-and-end construction with
alternate dyed and white warp yarns and with an all white filling. The Class 2 cloth shall be
woven with all white yarns.
3.5.3 Width. The width of the cloth shall be as specified (see 6.2), and shall be the minimum
acceptable width inclusive of selvages when fly shuttle looms are used, and exclusive of selvages
and fringe when shuttleless looms are used.
3.6 Finish. The cloth shall be scoured, singed, stabilized, mercerized, and bleached when
required to result in a smooth and lustrous finish equal in character to that of the standard
sample. In addition, the cloth shall be given an approved durable press treatment (see 6.2), and
shall be processed and cured to meet the requirements of this document.
3.7 Nonfibrous material. The starch and protein content, prior to application of the durable
press treatment shall not exceed 2.0 percent when tested as specified in 4.3.3.
3.8 Appearance rating. The finished cloth shall have an appearance rating of not less than
3.5 when tested after five launderings as specified in 4.3.3.
