2.2 Physical requirements . The finished cloth shall conform to the
following physical requirements.
2.2.1 The cured cloth shall have a minimum weight of 6.5 ounces per
square yard when tested according to ASTM-D 3776, Option C. The yarns
per inch shall contain a minimum of 68 for the warp and 34 for the
filling when tested according to ASTM-D 3775. Prior to testing for
yarns per inch, the samples shall be conditioned as directed in ASTM-D
1776 - Practice for Conditioning Textiles for Testing. The minimum
breaking strength shall be a minimum of 125 pounds for the warp and 75
pounds for the filling when tested according to ASTM-D 5034. The
width of the cloth shall be as specified in the contract and shall be
the minimum acceptable width inclusive of selvages.
2.2.2 The cured cloth shall have a dimensional change of not more
than 2.0 percent in the warp or filling direction when tested in
accordance with AATCC 135 (Table I [(1) V A]) with the following
exceptions: The specimens shall be 22 X 22 inches with 18 inch
benchmarks and 140 grams of soap shall be used.
2.2.3 The cloth shall have a seam efficiency of not less than 90
percent when tested in accordance with Method 5110 of FED-STD-191 -
Textile Test Methods. The needle shall measure 0.044
+ 0.001 inch
across the blade at the eye. The thread shall be polyester/cotton in
accordance with A-A-50199, ticket No. 50, 2 ply for the needle and
ticket No. 70, 2 ply for the looper.
2.2.4 The pH value of the water extract of the cloth shall be no less
than 5.0 nor more than 8.5 when tested in accordance with Method 2811
of FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods. The starch and protein content
including chloroform-soluble and water-soluble material of the dyed
cloth prior to treatment for nonfibrous material shall not exceed 2.0
percent when tested in accordance with ASTM-D 629 (Section 9).
2.2.5 The finished cloth shall be given an approved durable press and
soil release treatment. The cloth shall be processed so that the
cured cloth shall have an appearance and soil release rating (after
5 launderings) of 3.3 minimum when tested in accordance with AATCC 130
with the following exceptions: The appearance test may be performed
on the same pieces used for the dimensional stability test.
Evaluation shall be in accordance with AATCC Test Method 124. The
soil release test shall be performed after the fourth wash and dry
cycle on the specimens used for dimensional stability. The washing
and drying conditions used for the dimensional stability test shall
apply.
2.2.6 The finished cloth shall contain no more labile sulfur than
the standard sample when tested in accordance with Method 2020 of
FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods.
2.2.7 The finished cloth shall show colorfastness to light,
laundering (after 3 cycles), perspiration and crocking equal to or
better than the standard sample. As a limit of acceptability or when
no standard sample is available, the finished cloth shall show a
