2.1 General description. The yarn used for both type I and type II cloth shall be cotton that has been carded, drawn, and spun. The type I classes 1, 2, and 3 cloth shall be single layer in a birdseye weave.
The type II cloth shall be a double layer woven in a plain interlocking type weave. The combining, or interlocking of the double layer to form a single layer shall be throughout the length of the cloth and at regular intervals filling-wise to form pinking bars. The panels of –ply cloth formed by the pinking bars shall measure 19 ± 1/2 inch in length from the inside of pinking bar inside of pinking bar. Optional folding stripes may be included. If used, one stripe consisting of four ends weaving as one in a group of 3 or 4 shall be positioned 8 ± 1/2 inch from one selvage. A second stripe shall be 8 ± 1/2 inch from the opposite selvage. The folding bar shall become part of the single layer p[inking bars at point of intersection. Pieces of type II cloth shall begin and end with a pinked edge located in the middle of a pinking bar. No additive finishes shall be applied to either type and the character of the finished cloth shall be equal to that of the standard sample. The color of the finished cloth shall be bleached or dyed as specified when dyed cloth is specified (see 5.1), the use of dyes or substances containing elementary sulfur compounds capable of oxidation to sulfuric acid is prohibited. The color shall match the available standard sample under artificial daylight and shall have a correlated color temperature of 7500 ± 200K with an illumination of 100 ± 20 foot candles and shall be a good match to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at 2300 ± 200K.
2.2 Physical requirements. The finished cloth shall conform to the requirements specified in Table I.
