CLOTH, PRESSING, NYLON
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial item description in preference to CCC-C-482.
Abstract. This commercial item description covers nylon cloth intended for use in the fabrication of covers for flat bed laundry presses.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Classification. The cloth shall be of the following type as specified (See5.1).
Type I – Spun warp and filling yarn, plain weave
Type II – Filament warp yarn and spun filling yarn, twill weave
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 General description. The type I cloths shall be woven from spun nylon warp and filling yarns. The type II cloth shall be woven from multifilament nylon wary yarns and spun nylon filling yarns. The yarns for the type I and II cloth shall be a polymide prepared from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid. The spun yarn for both types I and II shall be twisted into 2-ply. The weave for the type I cloth shall be plain and for the type II cloth shall be a 2 up-1down right hand twill. The width shall be as specified (see 5.1) and shall be the minimum acceptable width inclusive of the selvage when fly-shuttle looms or shuttleless looms with tuck-in selvages are used. For all other shuttleless looms the width measurement shall be made between the last warp yarn on each side excluding the protruding fringe(s). The color of the finished cloth shall be natural. The cloth shall be heat treated to a 3800F minimum and if necessary given an additional heat treatment to increase heat resistant properties as well as to stabilize the cloth to a maximum 3.0 percent shrinkage or elongation in either fabric direction.
